Foods and ingredients to clean out of your pantry that have negative impacts on your health!
- Refined/Enriched Grains: Found in white bread, white flour, white pasta, and many crackers, cookies, etc.
- Artificial Colors: Most of these are chemical concoctions that have nothing natural about them. These will often be found in snack foods.
- Artificial sweeteners: Check your labels for aspartame, sucralose, acesulfame-k, splenda, equal, nutrasweet, etc.
- Added Sugars: Avoid foods with excessive added sugars. If it has more than 8 grams of sugar (2 tsp) per serving, then it’s too much. High fructose corn syrup, sugar, dextrose, maltodextrin, sucrose, honey, etc., are not good!
- MSG: This is used to enhance flavors in many processed foods. Additional names of MSG, glutamate, glutamic acid, vegetable protein extract, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, etc.
- Partially Hydrogenated Oils or Trans Fats: partially hydrogenated oils, margarine, shortening, etc. Packaged baked goods, crackers, breads, cookies, some peanut butters, etc.
- Sodium Nitrate and Nitrite: Look for sodium nitrate. This can often be found in processed meats (cold cuts, bacon, etc.). There are nitrate-free brands.
